We will cycle from London on Thursday 6 March to Folkestone, catch the Euro Star and stay overnight in Calais. The aim is arrive in Cannes at 1500hrs on Tuesday 11 March for the start of MIPIM 2008. We will have C2C executive coaches with luggage trailers, mechanic’s vans and support vehicles. The relay, made up of three pelotons, will each ride a minimum of 100 miles a day in two sessions. People who wish to ride for longer can do so. With the rolling road closure we aim to keep up an average speed of 15/17mph, however it must be stressed that this is not a race, each peloton will ride to the speed of the slowest riders, with more experienced riders taking the wind and generally assisting the peloton. It is a ride that is fun, an adventure with great camaraderie. The rolling road closure makes for great cycling, but peloton riding requires discipline to ensure safety. The ride is designed for fit commuter riders as well as hardened roadies. (Please note that all timings are subject to change)
C2C Background The ride was the brainchild of Peter Murray who had undertaken a series of solo charity rides in the past and believed that a cycling event at the time of the MIPIM Property Fair could tap in to the generosity of the property industry and raise significant amounts for good causes. At the same time it would help to promote cycling and sustainable forms of transport. The first ride in 2006 had just 17 riders supported by a double decker bus with bunks and a camper van as broom wagon. The weather was cold and at times we faced blizzard conditions. But all arrived safely having enjoyed the experience of a lifetime. We raised £110,000. In 2007 we had 52 riders including the majority of those from the previous year. This time there was a rolling closure, we stayed in hotels and the weather was rather milder yet the experience was just as exhilarating. We raised £270,000. In 2008 we will have around 140 riders and a target of £500,000. Our objective is to provide riders with a significant goal that keeps them focused, helps them reach new levels of performance, spurs them to mentally and physically push through preconceived boundaries. It is a lifetime experience – the pro style backup and support makes this a "professional event for amateurs"; it is the closest that an amateur rider will get to feeling and riding like a pro. C2C 2008 offers a unique networking opportunity. As the world's premier real estate summit, MIPIM brings together the most influential decision-makers in the market, offering them access to the largest available showcase of development projects with some of the most influential people in the property and construction industry (now and in the future) riding. The logistics of moving 140 riders and £500,000 of bikes in 2008 over the 5 days will require 32 support staff, 12 motorbike outriders, 3 mechanics, 2 lead cars and support vehicles, and requires in excess of a years preparation. Preparing an event such as C2C, over 5 days, 6 stages, 2 countries, once a year requires input, support and effort of hundreds of people. The friendly and interactive atmosphere is core to the ethos of C2C. Like-minded passionate cyclists and property professionals from all over the UK form a community within which they can sociably interact, train and ride hard. The culture is open. Greet your fellow riders, ask for advice from the experienced and provide guidance to the newcomers in the sport and enjoy it! Since the inception we have assisted four charities LandAid, The Tom ap Rhys Pryce Memorial Trust, Sarah Matheson Trust and Architects for Aid (A4A). We applaud and admire the passion with which these charities have helped to create better lives. C2C is located at: |
