Emthonjeni Trust
The Emthonjeni Trust gives support to people living with HIV and AIDS in the Eastern Cape in South Africa, particularly to a community in Grahamstown with high levels of poverty, unemployment and HIV infection. More than 5 million people live with HIV and AIDS in South Africa – more than in any other country. In 2012 funds from Cycle to Cannes will be chanelled to an after-school club for supervised play and one-to-one special needs support. They will also assist 40 orphaned and deprived children between 4 and 7 years old to attend pre-primary school.
The Trust was founded in Cheltenham in 2001 and channels nearly all its funds to its work in South Africa, with no salaries paid to UK volunteer staff.
