C2C is an opportunity to test you, your friends and colleagues together with riders from the UK property sector in a 6-day cycle endurance event from London to Cannes. Ride as if you are a pro with rolling orad closures, support vehicles and mechanics over 6 days and 1500km of tarmac.

You will ride in one of three groups, as a relay with lead cars, support vans, mechanics and motorbikes. Support vehicles will never be far away and a Sweeper Van will be able to pick up the riders who need a break. Since the inaugural ride in 2006 there have been many C2C riders who have surprised themselves with their ability to battle the long miles in the saddle. The camaraderie developed in attaining these personal achievements by everyone in the peloton reaching the finish in Cannes increases the cycling passion and means you have made cycling buddies for life. The event is known for its friendly, sociable atmosphere whilst enjoying the challenge and competition.

As you complete the challenge, you will also be helping support our designated charities. C2C is supported by professionals who give their time in return for your collected donations to the chosen charities LandAid, The Tom ap Rhys Pryce Memorial Trust, Sarah Matheson Trust, Article 25 and The Duke of Edinburgh's Award and other charities added at the discretion of the Trustees of C2C.

C2C 2009 ride 5 - 10 March will have a rolling road closure from London to Cannes. We depart on Thursday 5 March from Greenwich with a motor cycle escort organised by British Cycling and on Friday 6 March from Calais with a motor cycle escort organised by Alain Cordier, Commissaire France, who will provide a team of highly experienced French outriders and a rolling road closure as we cycle south.

The organisation en route will be led by Nick Hanmer, Commissaire and Chief Executive of Cycle to Cannes and supported by our head mechanics Nigel Hill and Graham Freestone King. We also have expert sports therapists from My Sports Therapist.com.

C2C cycle event is an endurance sport and designed for fit commuter riders as well as hardened roadies. We will be cycling at an average speed of 15mph in pelotons of approximately 46 people each. The relay, made up of three pelotons, will each ride a minimum of 100 km a day in two sessions. Each rider cycles a minimum of 500km over the 6 days – more ambitious riders can join more than one peloton and we may have some riders in 2009 looking for a real challenge “Go the Whole Distance”.

A baton will be carried continuously by the team leaders of the relay the entire distance from London to Cannes and presented to Boris Johnson (tbc) on the C2C podium at the official arrival ceremony to be hosted on the Petanque / Hotel de Ville opposite the Palais des Festival, Tuesday 10 March at MIPIM 2009.
